I want to make an object in which bamboo skewers play a part. The skewers are a little more then 3 mm wide. I am now testing with blender and Ultimaker which diameter I should use to get a good fit.
The first experiment went with 4 mm in diameter but that was to big. Then I did 3 mm but that was to small. These are shown in the image above. In the image here under I used a hole of 3.5 mm. After a little bit of twisting it fits and stays ferm.
After this I created a corner element which can hold 3 skewers. And here is the first example. It took about 1:30 to print. The length is 3 cm. The hole inside has a depth of around 1,5 cm.
Because the bamboo skewers are not always the same in wide some fit perfectly, some are to thick and some are to small. I think I have to glue them. But first I have to print more corner elements..
In the evening I printed another 3 items. It took about 4:14 hour to print these. The next morning I put them together and started immediately a print for another 4 items..
And 6:30 hours later the four new items were ready.
I have put them together to give a quick view. The items need to be cleaned still.
I just cleaned the corners with my Dremell and builded the Cube.
It looks great and feels stabil.
I already made a couple of add-ons for this cube. They could be placed in the middle of the skewer.
If you want to create a copy of this screw and you have access to a 3D printer then you can download the .stl file at Thingiverse or from YouMagine.
