Here are some images from the Blender file.
Here is the visualisation of the fingers seen. Also you see the 3d-coffeepad lying in the box.
For the lips I used a model-image from the internet. Just google for lips.
The printtime indication is about 16 hours for this box.
A couple days later I started the print. Monday afternoon. And something quickly became clear.
The file wasn't optimal. During creating the object in Blender I could union the upperlip through a boolean modifier with the box. That went without problems. I tried the same with the underlip but wasn't able to union them together. I changed the mesh a couple of times but nothing would make them union together.. So I joined the box object with the underlip object. Cura and Ultimaker seems to be able to handle such a file.. But it will have certain irregularities during progressing. And that you can see in the image above. The underlip gets closed with a layer which forms the bottompart of the box.. Ultimately it will become one plastic object.... But it not on the nicest way...
I stopped the process after about 25% was done.
The Ultimaker is making 2 seperated objects. It was useless to continue. I have to redesign the file and get the underlip to union with the rest...
In the Blender file of the box I noticed that the underlip object is not the problem. It was the box with the upperlip that was causing difficulties. I could try any different object to union with it, it didn't work. So the problem was in its mesh. I exported the box object into a .stl file and imported it into Meshlab. There I did a filter which triangulized everything in the object. I saved it and then imported it again in Blender. And when I did the boolean Union with the underlip again....it worked.... After this I had to made a few corrections to the mesh because it wasn't in a few spots non manifolt. But now I have an object that I can print. In Cura the estimated time for it is about 17 hours.
I printed the object with the backside at the bottom. This way the support material wouldn't misform the lips on the outside.
After 4:20 hours printing and 10% is done this is the result.
Until sofar it looks good but the curling on the corner has started and leaves an ugly gap on oneside. The print can turn out good with only on the backside a "disturbance".
Later on I noticed that also on the other side the box was curling a bit up. This didn't gave any problems with the printing itself.
Finally after 16:02 hours of printing and in the middle of the night ( 02:35) it was ready. It went smooth till the end.. Here are some images before the cleaning. On the platform you see also the support material and the raft.
With the dremel I cleaned a bit the box. The lid that I made a week ago fits good.
To make it realy kitschy I painted the lips red with acrylic paint.
And then finally the result ready in the kitchen. I used double side glue tape and I have put some coffee pads in it.
And does it work?
Well it is still a little tricky to get the pads out... It hangs next to my coffee pad machine.
I uploaded the item to Thingiverse. I designed the item for the CountertopChallenge on Thingiverse. You can also find the item on Firstbuild.com and Youmagine.
Update: The two side glue tape seemed fine at the start but after 4 hours or so the object fell of the wall. I sticked it again up but again after 3 hours or so it dropped. The week spot with the tape is not the wall but the plastic surface of the object. Maybe I should try another kind of tape?
